Bon Odori 2009 [ 18-JUL-2009 ] + view blog details + |
It's the time of the year again for the long anticipated Bon Odori event. The Bon Odori event has already become a yearly event for the Penangites and also the tourists There are lots to see and experience in this event and one should not miss the chance to savor the cross culture of Japan and Penang. This is my second time to the Bon Odori event and one thing that was different compared to my first time is that I am having a proper camera today
Knowing the fact that the event will pull large crowds, parking will prove to be difficult and so we had decided to meet up at the nearby area earlier and also parked our cars further away from the venue.
Though early, we could already started to see the crowd growing. We taken some random shoots before we went to grab some food to fill our stomachs It was really amazing to see that even locals were dressed up in Japanese clothings of Yukata and Kimono. Perhaps, It's time for me to get one as well hahaha

Hmm, the picture below is a close-up shot of a few Japanese ladies happily chatting among each other while photographers were busy snapping them. The Kimono dress never fails to impress I would say. It's so beautiful...

After shooting for around 30 minutes or so, we decided to head down to the food stalls section to grab some food before the event starts at 6pm. There were lots of food choices and we need coupons to buy them. Each coupon booklet costs RM20 and it has nice little hologram stamp of the Bon Odori logo

With luck, we managed to secure a place to seat and we took turns to grab our food. We sat a while to rejuvenate before heading back to the field to shoot the event. In the interim, we tried to shoot some portraits and crazy stuffs among ourselves Here are some of the pictures we had taken. One of which is a group picture while the other was simply a candid portrait shot of Felicia holding on a Japanese carbonated drink.

The arrival of the guest of honor, which is our Penang Chief Minister, YAB Lim Guan Eng, had drawn our attention to proceed to the front stage. Everyone had crowded the stage for the introduction speeches by the organizers and as well as the guest of honor Here are some snaps of our widely accepted Penang CM.

The end of the speeches marks the start of the performances. There were different groups of dancers performing the various dances and below are some of the pictures that I had managed to capture throughout the event. Enjoy...

Hmm, perhaps, this is one of the longest blog that I had written recently All in all, it was a great event but then the haze had made it the weather much more humid and exhaustive which was why we had decided to give up the fireworks session and went for a drink |
