Walk and shoot [ 2-AUG-2009 ] + view blog details + |
It's a Sunday and we resumed our plan for some shooting at the jetty which was initially planned for Saturday but canceled due to the rain. After some light breakfast, we started our photo shoot at the jetty. We were very pleased that the skies were blue and cloud patterns were detailed. We started to hit our shutter and capitalized on the clear blue skies. Here's a snapshot of clock tower taken from the road opposite nearing the jetty

After a while shooting, our plan was to on board the ferry and do a round-trip and snap Georgetown as the ship departs and arrives the harbor

The picture above was taken while waiting for the ferry to set sail As the ferry left off, I had taken a wide angle view of Georgetown. If you observe closely, you can the trails of the ferry on the sea as it sailed its way across the waters.

After some shooting under the hot sun, there's nothing more relaxing than a windy sea breeze. The gushing sea breeze rejuvenates and gets me ready for the shooting at our next location. Our next location is a Heritage place of tourist attraction called Pinang Peranakan Mansion. Personally, I had passed this place before but didn't have the chance to go in for a look as I was rushing out for time back then. I am back now wahhahah
You have to pay an entrance fee of RM10 and you can shoot all you want inside there. Seriously, if you haven't been there before, you should as there's really a lot of things to shoot inside. Ranging from architecture, traditional decos and etc. The first place we went to is the guest room and we saw lots of different old traditional tables and chairs. One of which is this card game which I totally had no idea what it is. It appears to be some paper mah-jong or something I guess...

Here are some of the architecture pictures that I had taken at the mansion.

On the upstairs of the mansion, you will be able to see the traditional room layouts and settings. And you will be amazed by the detailed emboideries that they are using for their bed sheets, pillow cases and also bed curtains

An interesting enough in the Baba Nyonya culture, wedding couples have a special room on their wedding day and after the wedding day, they no longer use that room they will be having another room But that special room is beautifully decorated. Here, take a look at it

This is a close up zoom on the fine emboidery work that women those days were capable of doing. It is not to mention that women today can't do it but I believe the numbers are significantly much smaller

With enough shots on the second floor, we made our way to the back of the building. Here, there's a function room which I supposed is specially designed for wedding dinners. The function room gives a classic and authentic feel with the traditional paintings and doors around it.

Just right beside the function hall, there's a small area which you can walk out and there's a small pool there. Just on the walls you see these Chinese traditional sculptures and we were told that these sculptures (pic below) that you are seeing are aged 120 years and they are not being maintained or painted before. It is at the stage it was back then... the sculpters used a technique where the paint was applied when the cement was partially dry so that it absorbs the paint into it. This explains why the colors are so lasting until today Gorgeous isn't it?

The last place we went to in the mansion was the temple and it's a place to pay respect to the ancestors of the mansion.

In summary, I think I had spent around 2 to 3 hours there just shooting around. You can roughly imagine just many stuffs in the mansion that you can shoot. Besides shooting the stuffs inside the mansion, the Peranakan Mansion is also a good place for wedding and portrait shooting I will be there again soon... wahahaha... |
